believes that humans will
eventually cease to exist in
hell...
If we say, 'God is dead to me' or 'God is a myth' or whatever the case may be, then God will do the same as back, "You are dead to Me, never again to be in My presence." Heaven is an eternal dreamboat. Hell is an eternal nightmare. 'Dead' is metaphorical, spirits are eternal either in heaven or in hell. Here's scripture to back it up and some of my own input...
Matthew 25:46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Hebrews 4:12 For the word
of God is quick, and powerful, and
sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the dividing
asunder of soul and spirit, and of
the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and
intents of the heart.
Whether in heaven or in hell, the
spirit is eternal. The division in
Hebrews, is an earthly process of
sanctification, drawing the fine
line between the spiritual and the
body-soul debacle. The body is our
animation. The soul is our
character, thoughts emotions,
desires and will. Our spirit is
eternal. When Jesus said, "Not my will be done but the Fathers will be done," was Jesus saying that His will is different than the Fathers will? Not exactly. Jesus was setting the example for humans to follow the will of the Father, rather than their own will. Jesus, the omnipotent body, has no choice but to follow His omniscient soul, which is the Father, or else He would be a house divided. The Holy Spirit is the omnipresent spirit of God. I call Him Jasper after the first foundation stone in Revelation 21:19-21.
Dividing the human soul from the human spirit is the pruning process of getting rid of the fleshly desire, character and will that doesn't align with the Fathers desires, character and will. When we're in heaven, we will be perfect stage players with the Father directing our desires, character, and will without our flesh getting in the way.
If Judas Iscariot were headed for no existence after a time in hell, then Jesus never would have said, "It would have been better for Judas to never have been born."
George you know this one well, but you're missing the element of spirit. Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
To destroy both body and soul, but not the spirit means that your spirit is the eternal component that keeps your body and soul in a regenerative state of mockery; a mockery of the physical and emotional healing process that we so loved on earth, but we disrespected the One who gave us breath. Humans in constant torment, being ripped to shreds by demons and fallen angels, just to be repeatedly regenerated as never-ending toys for those junkyard-demon dogs. My assumption of the second death is when the spirit will be torn apart repeatedly and regenerated like a light switch that keeps going on and off again for eternity.
Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” There is nothing saying that they will cease to exist in the lake of fire, more so they will continue their never-ending story "PART" upon the Satan's dishonorable platform stage. To be destroyed or to perish is not ceasing to exist, it's a perpetual, regenerative state of the mockery of God's healing.
Revelation 14:9 through 11 states it clearly... And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: Now listen to this part very closely... And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. They have no rest day and night forever and ever, sounds like eternal punishment to me.
One more thing, George and then you can listen to your album. Jesus puts a seed in us as a baby Christian, so before He can take a branch from that baby-seedling sprout and graft it into Him, that seedling sprout of the whole truth and nothing but the truth of God, must first grow strong roots inside that baby Christian.
As baby Christians we are thinking that when we sin, even when we repent, we're still somehow subject to ending up in hell. This is part of the sanctification process where we work out the whole truth and nothing but the truth of our salvation, which is done with fear and trembling. Once we get pass that and work that out into completion, then we will be like Paul, no longer thinking we'll end up in hell but knowing, without a doubt, that we are headed for heaven as a branch grafted in. This is why it's important to humble ourselves like children, because it's much easier for God to deal with a child then with someone who leans on their own understanding. You George ask, and ask, and ask just like a child does, and so do I. Students are supposed to ask with humble sincerity and an opened mind.
